Dr. Rick Hoaglin grew up all over the U.S. as the son of a NFL player and coach. Moving nearly 20 times during his youth allowed him to develop a love for the diversity of the United States.

Dr. Hoaglin is a graduate of Cornell University where he was a member of the 1990 Ivy League Champion Football team. Following graduation in 1993, he worked for Athletes in Action, a Christian ministry that serves to meet the spiritual needs of college and professional athletes. He was based in Boston, MA and worked with athletes from Boston College, Brown University and the New England Patriots.

In 1995, Dr. Hoaglin decided to return to the academic world, and received a M.S. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Montana in 1997.
He then enrolled in the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine where he graduated Cum Laude in 2001. Dr. Hoaglin was also inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honorary Society for his academic achievements.

In July 2001, Dr. Hoaglin joined the practice of Dr. John Sperry in Missoula, Montana. Dr. Hoaglin and Dr. Sperry practiced together until Dr. Sperry's retirement in 2006.

One of Dr. Hoaglin's proudest professional achievements came in 2013 when he received the prestigious Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) Fellowship Award. Requirements of the fellowship award include 500 hours of continuing dental education as well as passing a rigorous written examination covering all areas of dentistry. Less than 5% of all General Dentists have been awarded the AGD Fellowship Award.

Family Life

Dr. Hoaglin is married to Jocelyn (Sayre) who is a Registered Dental Hygienist. Jocelyn worked as a hygienist in our practice for four years until she got a better job. She now spends her time at home raising their three active boys: Zachary, Dawson, and Walker.

Personal Life

After learning to ride a unicycle in 2012, Dr. Hoaglin began competing in triathlons (both on a unicyle and bicycle). He has since completed the 2013 Boise Ironman 70.3, 2014 Calgary Ironman 70.3, and 2015 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. Dr. Hoaglin also competed in the 2014 & 2015 Rut 50K mountain run in Big Sky, MT. He is currently training for the inaugural Coeur D'Alene Ironman 70.3 and the 2016 Rut 50K.

Dr. Hoaglin, Jocelyn and all three boys play competitive ice hockey during the winter months and enjoy waterskiing in the summer. The boys are quickly turning into avid skiers and love spending time on the slopes.
