About Dr. Hoaglin

  • What is the AGD Fellowship Award?

The Academy of General Dentistry Fellowship Award is one of the most prestigious recognitions available to general dentists. Earning it requires completing a minimum of 500 hours of continuing dental education and passing a comprehensive written examination covering all areas of dentistry. Fewer than 5% of all general dentists hold this award. Dr. Hoaglin received his AGD Fellowship Award in 2013, reflecting his deep commitment to staying current with the latest dental knowledge and techniques.

  • How long has Dr. Hoaglin been practicing dentistry?

Dr. Hoaglin graduated Cum Laude from Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2001 and joined the Missoula dental community that same year. He has been practicing general dentistry in Missoula for over 20 years, building lasting relationships with patients and families throughout the region.

Dental Health Questions

  • How often should I have a dental cleaning and examination?

Most patients benefit from a professional dental cleaning and comprehensive examination every six months. However, some patients — particularly those with a history of gum disease, a higher cavity risk, or certain medical conditions — may benefit from more frequent visits. Dr. Hoaglin will recommend the visit frequency that is appropriate for your individual oral health needs.

  • What are the signs that I should see a dentist sooner than my scheduled visit?

Contact our Missoula office as soon as possible if you experience tooth pain or sensitivity, bleeding gums, a cracked or chipped tooth, a loose tooth, swelling in the jaw or gums, sores that don't heal, or any other significant change in your oral health. Many dental problems are much easier and less expensive to treat when caught early — don't wait until your next scheduled visit if something feels wrong.

  • How can I prevent cavities?

The most effective cavity prevention strategy combines good at-home oral hygiene with regular professional care. Brush twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste, floss at least once a day to remove plaque from between teeth and below the gumline, limit sugary and acidic foods and beverages, drink fluoridated water when possible, and maintain your regular six-month checkups at our Missoula office. Dr. Hoaglin may also recommend fluoride treatments or dental sealants for patients at higher cavity risk.
